How to Play
If you’re not quite sure how to play or find yourself curious about the various modes of gameplay Lost in Reefs: Antarctic offers, then this section will provide you with all the information you need.
Match-3
The primary type of gameplay you will find in Lost in Reefs: Antarctic is Match-3. Whether you’re unfamiliar with Match-3 play, or simply need a reminder, this section will help you cover the basics.
- Before you can play a Match-3 game, you will need to select a level. Click “Play” from the game’s main menu to access the level select. From here, the recommended level will be highlighted, however you can play any level you’ve unlocked thus far. Once you’ve selected a level, a Match-3 game will begin.
- Swap two touching items to line up a row of three or more of the same type. This will create an item match and remove the items from the board.
- Marble plaques will appear on your game board. Make item matches over these plaques to break them and remove them from the board. By default, marble plaques are gold in color. A blue marble plaque may cover a golden one, indicating an extra match must be made to break through to the layer beneath.
- There are two primary game modes: Moves and Time.
- Moves: Break all the marble plaques on the playing field before you run out of moves. Moves remaining are shown in a purple meter adorned with a penguin at the top of your screen.
- Time: Break all the marble plaques on the playing field before you run out of time. The amount of time left remaining is displayed via a purple meter with a stopwatch at the top of your screen.
- Relaxed Mode is also available for those who check the “Relaxed Mode” box in the level select screen. The goal for this game mode is simply to remove all the marble plaques from the board, regardless of time or moves. Take as long as you like!
- Crates will appear on some levels. Make a match of three or more items which are touching a crate in order to break it apart.
- Crates may also come in a reinforced format, and require extra matches to be made before they can be broken.
- Similar to the crates are brick blocks. These require multiple matches to be made before they can be broken apart. Cracks will indicate how close a block is to breaking.
- Some items on the board may be chained. The number of chains indicates the number of matches that must be made using that item before it will be broken free.
- As you progress, you may even encounter different types of Match-3 game boards. The same rules apply, though: match three or more items to remove them from the board. In the case of honeycomb boards, you may need to move pieces diagonally to make a match.
Quests
As you unlock presents on the level select map, you may unlock quests, too. Quests are small hidden object side-games you can play. Collect items hidden around the area to find solutions to problems you face. Completing these quests successfully will earn you a large Gem reward. Any active quests can be accessed via an icon at the top of your level select screen.
Town
The Town is your own personal underwater paradise, visible both from the game’s main menu screen as well as after completing Match-3 levels.
- Use coins your earn from Match-3 levels to purchase various underwater structures.
- Each structure has a requirement of a certain number of items you will need to build it. Gold, Tools, and Fish are the currency.
- In addition to purchasing structures, you may also upgrade them. Simply select the “Upgrade” option displayed beneath a structure icon at the bottom of your screen.
- Purchasing and fully upgrading structures will reward you with special fish for your underwater paradise.
- Once a structure has been fully upgraded, a new unlockable structure which you can purchase will take its place at the bottom of the screen.
- Collect them all!
Tips & Tricks
Is the ice feeling a bit thin under your feet? Try these additional tips and tricks to get you back on solid ground.
- You can play the game with multiple profiles at once. Simply select “Profiles” from the game’s main menu, then select the icon of the profile you’d like to play.
- Trophies are viewable from the game’s main menu. Click the Trophies icon to view trophies you’ve unlocked. If you haven’t unlocked a trophy, hovering your cursor over a trophy outline will reveal how to unlock it.
- You can change the game’s difficulty at any time by checking or unchecking the “Relaxed Mode” box on the level select screen.
- You can earn power-ups of various kinds by progressing through the game. If a gift box appears between levels, proceeding to that level will unlock that gift box automatically.
- The hammer is a power-up which will allow you to break any tile on the field. However, if you use a hammer on a tile with, for example- multiple chains, the hammer will only break one chain off the item.
- Earn gems by completing quests. Gems can be used to purchase power-ups or provide extra time or moves if you run out.
- Some boards will feature bombs. Click on these to detonate them and clear the pieces in their immediate vicinity. Bombs may be found on the board or purchased as power-ups.
- Any power-ups that may be covered in chains do not require you to remove the chains before you can use them! Simply click on a chained power-up on the board and you’ll be able to use it right away.
